Case Study: Tiny Home Agroforestry and Rewilding

Location Scotland
Scale Smallholding
Site area 2.5 acres
Year 2021
Masterplan drawing for Case Study: Tiny Home Agroforestry and Rewilding
Masterplan drawing produced for the client as part of the final design package.

When people acquire a piece of land, often, their first thought is to erect a large home on it. But as this interesting project demonstrates, we can live much more lightly on the land. This plot in Scotland comprises almost a hectare (just under 2.5 acres) of marginal land but will accommodate a wooden cabin tiny home, only around 8m long and 4m wide (c. 34 sq m).

This project is an example of the work I undertake through my Regenerative Farm Design & Agricultural Consultancy service. If you’re planning a farm, estate or smallholding, however large or small, I can help you bring your dreams to life.

The plan is to manage the land to increase biodiversity, restoring and managing an area of native woodland, creating a forest garden centred around a pond in the base of a natural depression, and creating smaller areas for the cultivation of heritage grains and legumes, and a terraced kitchen garden for the inhabitant.
